Yesterday, Meta announced Batman: Arkham Shadow, a VR-only game coming exclusively to the Meta Quest 3. Batman: Arkham Shadow is in development at Camouflaj, a developer with offices in Bellevue, Washington, and Kamakura, Japan. Camouflaj was founded in 2011 by Ryan Payton, who had previously worked at KONAMI as Assistant Producer on Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots.

The studio's debut game was the episodic action-adventure stealth title République. They subsequently moved to the virtual reality space with Marvel's Iron Man VR, which launched as a PlayStation VR exclusive in 2020 before coming to Meta Quest 2 in 2022. That's also when Meta acquired Camouflaj, which led to the making of this game as a full exclusive.

Founder Ryan Payton shared a few thoughts on the upcoming game via the studio's website:

After years of working in secrecy, Camouflaj is proud to announce its next game, Batman: Arkham Shadow. Collaborating closely with Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment and DC, we aim to deliver an authentic new entry in the celebrated Arkham franchise, something that the series' millions of fans will know is no easy feat. The prospect of adding a new chapter to such a storied franchise is exhilarating. (And it's been a lot of fun.) We are committed to building upon the beloved foundation laid by the legendary team at Rocksteady, and driven to do it justice.

From the start, Batman: Arkham Shadow is being crafted to be the ultimate VR game and take full advantage of Meta Quest 3. Leaning into our eight years of dedicated VR game development history has enabled us to not only create a distinctly Arkham-feeling game but done in a way that leverages the immersive magic only VR can provide.

Payton also noted that joining Meta has unlocked the full potential of the studio to create high-quality games. Batman: Arkham Shadow will be released in late 2024.
