Numerous sources, ranging from The Information to Bloomberg's Mark Gurman, have stated in recent days that the successor to the iPhone Air, aptly called the iPhone Air 2, will likely launch in the spring of 2027 alongside the base iPhone 18 and iPhone 18e.
However, a Weibo-based tipster is now claiming to have "confirmed" that the iPhone Air 2 will likely launch in the fall season - either 2026 or 2027 - substantially adding to the prevailing confusion in the process.
Fixed Focus Digital: "[Apple's] next iteration of the iPhone Air is confirmed to be unveiled at the fall launch event"

Fixed Focus Digital has made the following claims in a recent Weibo post (translated via Google):
"Based on my information: The next iteration of the iPhone Air is confirmed to be unveiled at the fall launch event."
"Additionally, the iPhone 17e is already in mass production and will be seen at the spring launch event."
The tipster has not clarified whether he is referring to the fall of 2026 or 2027. Even so, given the persistent reports of a delayed release for the Apple iPhone Air 2, presumably in a bid to equip the ultra-slim iPhone with a dual camera setup - likely to be an ultra-wide lens - as well as to better manage the constrained supply of the A20 chip, which is all set to leverage TSMC's 2nm process, replete with Wafer-Level Multi-Chip Module (WMCM) packaging that allows for components such as the SoC and the DRAM to be directly integrated at the wafer level, we believe a fall 2027 launch appears much more likely than a fall 2026 release.
Even though it is priced at $999, the Apple iPhone Air only offers a hobbled battery capacity, a single 48MP camera, albeit with Telephoto-like optical-quality 2× zoom, and a single speaker. However, a new report from The Information has stated that Apple is reportedly gunning for a lower launch price for the iPhone Air 2 vs. its OG Air counterpart, all in a bid to position the ultra-slim smartphone at an attractive price point to drive higher sales.
Of course, in the face of disappointing sales figures for the iPhone Air, Bloomberg's Mark Gurman recently claimed that Apple always expected the iPhone Air to constitute between 6 percent and 8 percent of its annual iPhone sales, and that the ultra-thin smartphone continues to retain utility for Apple as an experimental platform for testing new technology.
