Ayaneo has provided a technical deep-dive of its upcoming Ayaneo 2S handheld console which features the AMD Ryzen 7 7840U APU.

The Ayaneo 2S Handheld gaming console is going to make use of the AMD Ryzen 7 7840U which offers desktop-class performance in a 15-28W design. This chip is similar to the Ryzen Z1 series processors which are used by the ASUS ROG Ally handheld console but those feature additional power optimizations. For now, ASUS is the only one to utilize the Z1 series chips while the rest of the console makers are going to use the Ryzen 7040U series.
The AMD Ryzen 7 7840U is one of the many Ryzen 7040U Phoenix APUs which is designed for the 15-28W laptop and handheld market. This CPU carries 8 cores and 16 threads based on the Zen 4 core architecture and also packs a Radeon 780M iGPU that utilizes the RDNA 3 GPU architecture. It features 12 compute units for a total of 768 cores and those will run close to 2800 MHz frequency. Ayaneo 2S is revealed to feature the APU along with 16 GB of LPDDR5X memory running at 7500 Mbps speeds.
It is also noted that the new AYANEO 2S features a new heatsink solution that incorporates a 3+1 copper tube and copper sheet design which increases the heat dissipation area to 1118mm2 or 33 percent larger than the one featured on the Ayaneo 2 handheld. Ayaneo showcased various tests using the new heatsink and it delivered up to 11.6C drop in temperatures versus its predecessor.
The thermal testing results are as follows:
- Single FPS Test in 18C Ambinet at 28W = 70C -> 62C (8C Drop)
- Single FPS Test in 25C Ambinet at 28W = 73C -> 63C (10C Drop)
- Forza Horizon 5 in 18C Ambinet at 28W = 67.9C -> 59.1C (8.8C Drop)
- Forza Horizon 5 in 25C Ambinet at 28W = 76.4C -> 64.8C (11.6 Drop)
The new heatsink also comes with an enhanced airflow design which features a rapid heat exhaust technology that increases the air outlet area by 50%. The battery also sees an upgrade with a 50.25 Wh design for extra longer gaming times. There's even an additional Graphene heatsink sink on the back of the chassis and the battery to enhance the thermal performance.
The previous AYANEO 2 had the option of 16 to 32 GB of RAM and 512 GB to 2 TB of SSD storage. The Ayaneo 2S will come in Starry Black and Sky White colors along with a special yet limited Retro Power theme. Pricing for the previous AYANEO 2 landed between $1099 to $1499, and the new generation should maintain the exact pricing.
The Ayaneo 2S handheld gaming console will ship with the Windows 11 operating system. It is unknown if the company will utilize the same linear motor found on the Nintendo Switch, which they used in previous models. Optimizations to the assembly, trigger, and body mold allow for a console that feels better in hands and is also easy to disassemble. The fingerprint unlock has also been dramatically improved.
For the screen, the Ayaneo 2S will utilize a 7" IPS screen with an ultra HD (1920 x 1200) wide resolution. The screen is rated with a 323 PPI, 450 nits of brightness, a contrast ratio of 1200:1, and a DCI-P3 color gamut coverage of 96% (sRGB).
For existing Ayaneo 2 owners, the company has also announced a new upgrade program with which you can upgrade the motherboard of your existing console to leverage the newer Ryzen 7000 APUs. The upgrade service time, price, and method are yet to be announced. The 2S will launch in the mid of May at a special price for those who participate in promotional activities & there will also be pre-orders opening up in early May. The first consoles will be shipped to its first customers starting mid of June.

In addition to the Ayaneo 2S, the company has also unveiled the Ayaneo Geek 1S which improves upon the original Geek by featuring the newest AMD Ryzen 7000 APUs too and the same 3+1 heat pipe solution featured on the 2S.
