Earlier today, some users found references to multiplayer modes in Assassin's Creed Shadows, reigniting a rumor that circulated even before the game's launch.

However, this afternoon, Ubisoft Quebec shared the full year-one roadmap, and there's no mention at all of any multiplayer modes. They may be keeping it a secret until a later announcement, but I wouldn't count on it. On the other hand, here's what is definitely coming to Assassin's Creed Shadows in the next twelve months:

Throughout the rest of 2025, Assassin's Creed Shadows will be updated with the New Game Plus mode, new story drops, more quality-of-life enhancements, more special collaborations, more Codex updates, Animus content and rewards, and, of course, the Claws of Awaji expansion that will introduce a new region with over 10 hours of content. As a reminder, Claws of Awaji is free for anyone who pre-ordered the game, while pricing for everyone else still needs to be communicated.

Assassin's Creed Shadows has done very well for Ubisoft, largely keeping the publisher afloat during its restructuring, which culminated in a new subsidiary whose sole purpose is to control the Assassin's Creed, Far Cry, and Rainbow Six IPs.
