Apple Watch Series 10 uses same heart sensor as previous model

The tech community has long been waiting for Apple's September event, and all the product launches it will incorporate. The rumor mill was churning in full swing about what the upcoming devices would bring forward, and while some of the speculations do stand true, some expectations were not met. This was especially the case with the Apple Watch Series 10, where users were given hope of an updated heart and ECG sensor with promising capabilities, but that did not happen.

Apple Watch Series 10 comes with the same optical heart sensor as its predecessor

Before the Apple Watch Series 10 release, several reports suggested that the new model could potentially be packed with upgraded heart and ECG sensors. However, this did not happen as the latest Apple Watch Series came out with the same sensor as its previous generation, Series 9,

This information was not shared during the event but rather laid out in the technical specifications for the series. Additionally, there is no upgraded feature information given on the Apple Series 10 product page confirming that it did not undergo any changes.

Previous rumors claimed that the upgraded optical heart sensor would allow for more features, improved accuracy in results, and detect sleep apnea. Sleep apnea, however, is not limited to the Watch Series 10 and is added to the previous model as well as the Apple Watch Ultra 2 because it does not require an upgraded sensor and is, in fact, relying on an accelerometer for its functionality.

There were speculations regarding Apple trying to get blood pressure monitoring for the Series 10, but that was also not the case, as it is still in development. The water resistance did not see any significant improvements and continues with the same resistance as Series 9. So, for the new model of the wearable, we did not see any noteworthy health features other than the sleep apnea ability.

Despite not many significant health feature upgrades, the Series 10 did undergo design improvements from its predecessor and has some new sensors for depth and temperature that stand close to those incorporated in the Apple Watch Ultra 2.
