An earlier Apple Vision Pro launch timeline stated that the mixed-reality headset’s shipments would start in February next year, with the company’s supply chain working in overdrive mode to avoid any further delay. Now, one analyst believes that if the current schedule is maintained, the device will start getting stocked in stores beginning in late January. Aside from these launch predictions, the analyst also states that the mixed-reality headset will be Apple’s most important product for 2024 and also provides shipment estimates for next year.
Estimated Apple Vision Pro shipments stand at half a million for 2024; positive user experience should ramp up production
Mass shipments of the Apple Vision Pro will reportedly commence in the first week of January next year, according to TF International Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo. The first batch is estimated to arrive in late January or early February, which is almost in line with the prediction made by Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman. However, despite the small 500,000 estimated shipments of the Apple Vision Pro, Kuo believes that this will be the company’s most important product for 2024 and that a positive user experience will pave the way for a healthy mixed-reality future.
However, Kuo’s estimates for the Apple Vision Pro shipments are half of what we reported previously, with an analysis done by Jiemian stating that the device will ship around 400,000 units at launch and reach the one million milestone by the end of 2024. The positive sentiment around the headset, given its ludicrous $3,499 price tag, suggests that these are exaggerated figures, and Kuo’s prediction appears to be the more likely figure, though the analyst has been incorrect on more than one occasion too.
Regardless, positive user feedback should strengthen the market consensus of the product, which may explain why Apple had chosen some retail employees to undergo training on the premium AR headset. The training sessions are expected to start in January, last for two days, and will condition retail employees on how to approach customers and request them to try out the Apple Vision Pro while placing the device perfectly on their heads to help enjoy high-resolution content while delivering a comfortable experience.
A positive first impression can translate into a potential retail sale, with only a small percentage of customers willing to undertake that $3,499 bet. Also, the Apple Vision Pro will only be available through an appointment system, and the lack of an expanded launch means that only U.S.-based customers will get to experience the hardware first. Hopefully, with the initial batch arriving soon, Apple can branch out to other markets to capture the mixed-reality headset market before its competitors get in on the action.
