We recently reported how Apple is struggling to meet its internal deadlines, but this has not jeopardized Tim Cook’s position as CEO, thanks to his strong support among the board members. Well, the company has delayed another product until next year, which was destined to arrive earlier this year, and now we know why. According to a new report, the iPhone maker has seen fit to delay its all-new Smart Home Hub until next year, a device that would link all compatible Home-based accessories.
Apple postpones smart home hub as Siri and Apple Intelligence features need more development time
Last week, Mark Gurman claimed that Apple has indefinitely delayed the launch of its Smart Home Hub, and the reason for the halt was the company's inability to release the Personalized Siri feature on time. The feature was also reported to arrive with the release of iOS 18.4 in March, but following reports claimed that the Apple Intelligence extension feature was not ready for the public's eye. While the feature is real and in perfect working condition, Apple executive Craig Federighi stated that it needed more polish for a seamless experience. He also claimed that the company did not show demoware on stage last year and that the feature was, in fact, real.
The Personalized Siri feature is now expected to arrive next year, and potentially alongside it, the company will announce its Smart Home Hub. In his latest Power On newsletter, Gurman shares why the company has delayed the Smart Home Hub and how it wishes to operate the system. Specifically, the analyst notes that the device will make use of a new version of App Intents, allowing Siri to control and navigate third-party and stock apps more accurately using voice commands. The company is also struggling to deliver in this regard, which is why the Smart Hub has been delayed.
If you are unfamiliar, Apple's Smart Home Hub will reportedly feature a 6 to 7-inch display and will be powered by the company's A18 chip for Apple Intelligence support. The device will be attached to a speaker at the bottom with a camera on top for FaceTime calls. Ming-Chi Kuo previously claimed that the display for Apple's smart home device will enter mass production in the third quarter of 2025, and even though the hardware is ready, the company does struggle from a software standpoint, with delays expected in the future as well.
