Apple's 'Let Loose' event is only a few days away and we are expecting big from the company. Alongside the new OLED iPad Pro, there were reports that the company is also planning to upgrade the Apple Pencil with precise controls. Now, analyst Mark Gurman states that the upcoming Apple Pencil will come with haptic feedback and new gestures.
Apple Pencil will come with new haptic feedback for different features
One of the biggest changes coming with the iPad Pro upgrade is the new OLED display. The company is finally bringing the OLED technology to the iPad models, which will be limited to the 'Pro' models this year. However, we can expect it to trickle down to additional models in the future. In his latest Power on newsletter, Gurman writes that the new Apple Pencil will be able to give haptic feedback, prompting users to the features it will be tied to.
With haptic feedback, the Apple Pencil will offer realistic and physical feedback to users. Note that details related to the feature are scarce at this stage as we are not familiar with the features in iPadOS 17 that it will be linked to. Possibly, the haptics would come into play when erasing something or becoming active on different angles, signaling users for precise control.
Besides this, the Apple Pencil upgrade for the iPad Pro is also expected to bring squeeze gestures to the table. The feature was previously discovered in the iPadOS 17.5 beta and was used to bring up the contextual menu. It could also be connected to switching between different modes like shapes, stickers, or text. Apple's digital stylus upgrade seems like the perfect accessory to go with the new OLED iPad Pro models. Since the accessory features a small battery inside, it remains to be seen if the haptics will play nice with it.
Apple also has a new Magic Keyboard in the works, which will allow the iPad Pro to feel more like a laptop. This could mean that the accessory will have various hinge levels. As mentioned, the company is expected to host its event on May 7, where it will also announce the new iPad Air models. The bigger 12.9-inch variant of the 'Air' will be the only physical change coming to the lineup, other than upgraded internals.
