Apple may finally be ready to bring touchscreens to its Mac lineup, and it appears that the first recipient will be an OLED MacBook Pro, possibly arriving late next year or early 2027. The news was shared by prominent analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, who states that Apple’s supply chain sources are actively preparing for touch-enabled MacBook Pro models with an OLED display.

Apple may launch a touchscreen OLED MacBook Pro within two years, bridging the gap between iPad and Mac experiences

This is not just speculation, as the news was also shared by Mark Gurman from Bloomberg a few years ago, and Kuo’s timeline aligns with the earlier prediction. If the news has any heft to it, Apple will announce the M5 MacBook Pro models early next year, shifting away from its typical end-of-year launch schedule, and the OLED MacBook Pro models, possibly with an M6 chip, in the same year or the one after that.

We can also say that Apple’s touch-enabled MacBook Pro models are only two generations away from where we are right now. If Apple does go ahead with touchscreen Macs, it would bring the MacBook lineup even closer to the iPad in terms of user experience. This seems like a natural evolution, as for many people, the idea that Macs do not accept touch input feels increasingly antiquated. After all, people who have grown up using iPhones and iPads often expect to be able to tap, swipe, and stretch the screen to interact, but when a Mac fails to respond, it feels kind of unnatural.

Kuo also hinted that touchscreen features may not stop with the high-end MacBook Pro models, as they will be brought forward to a second-generation budget MacBook, which Apple is reportedly planning to power with an iPhone-style chipset. What this means is that the budget MacBook could be a candidate for a touchscreen as well, potentially meaning that the company will also bring the technology to the MacBook Air lineup.

Kuo states that the OLED MacBook Pro is expected to enter the production stage in late 2026, but it is still unclear if the actual shipments will arrive in late 2026 or slip into early 2027. Nonetheless, the company would bring the technology that Windows laptops have had for years to the MacBooks. Apple would have to make certain changes to the UI to make it friendly for your fingers, possibly with slightly enlarged icons or other elements. macOS Tahoe does share design UI elements with iPadOS 26, which underscores Apple’s broader push towards unifying touch-based and desktop experiences.
