Apple was largely expected to officially release iOS 26.2, iPadOS 26.2, watchOS 26.2, tvOS 26.2, visionOS 26.2, and macOS Tahoe 26.2 this week. Those expectations have now panned out.
Apple iOS 26.2 goes official along with updates for a wide range of Apple's devices
The iOS 26.2 update includes the following changes, as gleaned from the recent beta updates:
Three major changes to the Podcast app:
- Apple will automatically create podcast episode chapters, facilitating ease of navigation.
- Apple Podcasts will now include the ability to "see and follow mentioned podcasts right from the player and transcript."
- A 'From This Episode' feature will allow users to "quickly access the links shared in a podcast on the episode page."
The Apple News app is now slated to get four new sections:
- Sports
- Puzzles
- Politics
- Food
Apple Games app - a central hub for all gaming activity on Apple's devices - gets 3 new features in iOS 26.2:
- Now you can filter your game library by titles your friends are playing, as well as by size or those that support challenges.
- Improved controller compatibility during app navigation.
- Challenge scores now get updated in real-time.
Other changes:
- You can now remove pinned messages on CarPlay
- A Liquid Glass slider for customizing the appearance of the clock on the lock screen, allowing you to adjust the opacity of the clock to your liking.
- You can now create an alarm with the Reminders app. When a Reminder alarm goes off, it displays a snooze option and a slide to stop option. The snooze option can be replaced with a 'mark as complete" option.
- Apple has also changed how Sleep Score tracks your sleep, with 'Very High' replacing 'Excellent' as the highest sleep category, and additional changes to each category's thresholds.
- EU users will now be able to choose a default digital assistant other than Siri and use the Live Translation feature with AirPods.
- Users in Japan can choose a third-party virtual assistant instead of Siri and activate it via the iPhone's Side button.
- Users in Japan can now download apps from third-party app marketplaces.
- AirDrop will now allow you to share a file with another Apple user who is not in your contacts for up to 30 days. The receiver's device will generate a code that the sender must enter to complete the transfer.
- You now have an option to let your iPhone screen flash when you receive a notification.
Other updates
Do note that the iPadOS 26.2 update features the following changes:
- The Freeform app now lets you use tables
- Apple Music lyrics now work while your device is offline.
macOS 26.2 gets Edge Lighting
- The feature lights up the corners of your Mac display during a video call to light up your face.
For watchOS 26.2, users get updated Sleep Scores described above. Also, Apple has turned off automatic Wi-Fi password sharing between the iPhone and the Apple Watch in the EU.
tvOS 26.2 brings a dedicated Kids Mode to Apple TV, along with Liquid Glass UI support for Apple TV 4K models.
