Apple's first foldable iPhone, tentatively called the iPhone Fold, might not be the most expensive device that Apple retails, but it certainly looks like a close second.
Apple's iPhone Fold tipped to retail for $2,399
Fubon Research's analyst, Arthur Liao, wrote the following in a recent report:
- Global smartphone shipments are expected to decline by 4 percent year-over-year in 2026 to 1.2 billion units.
- China's smartphone shipments are expected to decline by 3 percent next year to 275 million units.
- In the same vein, total Apple iPhone shipments are expected to decline by 4 percent year-over-year to 234 million units.
- The cost of components is expected to increase next year, with the total Bill of Materials (BOM) to increase by 5 to 6 percent in 2026.
- "DRAM contract prices are up over 75% compared to 4Q24."
While discussing Apple's upcoming foldable iPhones, the analyst expects total sales of 15.4 million units over the lifetime of these foldables, based on a 7 percent penetration estimate.
Moreover, Liao expects Apple's iPhone Fold to rack up sales of 5.4 million units in 2026 alone. More surprisingly still, the analyst expects the foldable iPhone to retail at $2,399, which is around 2x the price of the iPhone 17 Pro Max, and is driven by the elevated cost for its display panel, hinge, and other lightweight components. For context, Samsung's Galaxy Z Fold 7 retails for $1,999.
Here are the highlight specs of the upcoming iPhone Fold:
- Book-style form factor, with the iPhone Fold's primary panel measuring 7.74 inches, and the cover display measuring 5.49 inches.
- A 2,713 x 1,920 resolution, with a 4:3 aspect ratio.
- Touch ID instead of Face ID.
- The display won't have a visible crease.
- A20 Pro SoC, a 12GB RAM, in-house C2 5G modem.
- The rear dual-camera setup will feature a maximum resolution of 48MP.
- An in-display camera with a resolution of up to 24MP.
- A battery with a capacity of 5,400-5,800mAh.
