HomePod Code Shows Inductive Charging, Status Bar and More For Apple's iPhone 8
One of the biggest leaks for the iPhone 8 is Apple's own doing. Recently, the company accidentally posted HomePod firmware and we've been sifting through it ever since. It's provided a lot of details for the iPhone 8, both new and ones already present on the rumor mill. According to these leaks, the smartphone will be able to record 4K video at 60fps. Rumors of facial recognition for the iPhone 8 are also corroborated, as the smartphone will support gesture based notification response.
Now, the firmware's got some more gifts for us. One big rumor surrounding this year's iPhone lineup is wireless charging. We've seen details for the feature surface in verbal as well as pictorial leaks. It's expected that the iPhone will change its build materials this year, shifting to glass for the feature's facilitation. Now, it also mentions 'Inductive Charging', among other things.
There's also a new battery icon for the D22 - widely rumored to be the iPhone 8's internal code-name at Apple. There's also mention of a 'Inverted Status Bar', which sounds a lot like a function area located at the bottom of the iPhone 8's screen. Perhaps the most interesting find however is 'lockButtonAppropriateForShutter'. This hints at increased functionality for the Camera app, one that's already expected to utilize the Status Bar mentioned above.
Finally, Apple will also introduce new Accessibility features for the D22, according to today's reveal. The smartphone's lock screen and a status bar be upgraded, with the latter nesting comfortably between the sensors on its top. Looks like a lot of upgrades are headed our way with the iPhone 8. If only it'd clear up on what Apple will actually call the device. Informed sources believe that we might get a 'iPhone, iPhone Plus and iPhone Pro this year'. It'll all be clear in a month.
