Apple introduced its FineWoven lineup of cases for the iPhone 15 series last year, with the new range intended to replace leather since the latter has a significant carbon footprint. As expected, each of these cases was going for $59, but it was not a price problem that resulted in a horde of disgruntled customers, but their durability, which did not justify the premium. Now, it appears that Apple is rumored to be pulling the plug on production due to the quality issues plaguing these accessories and is said to move to a different material.
Apple’s FineWoven alternative will not be leather due to its excessive carbon footprint
It is likely that with the release of the iPhone 16 lineup later this year, Apple might unveil a new range of cases that will not be made of the same FineWoven material that countless users complained had durability problems over a prolonged period of use. According to Kosutami, he put out a post on X, stating that Apple has stopped all production of these cases due to the lack of quality, with the technology giant intending to move to a different material. The post did not mention that specific material, but it will most likely be environmentally friendly.
Knowing Apple as a company, quality is its forte, and it is often seen in nearly all of its products, not to mention the excessive attention to detail. However, FineWoven cases were prone to excessive wear and tear after a short period, such as fading colors. Such problems should not be expected from an accessory that costs $59 apiece, so Apple provided a temporary solution, with some tips relayed to its retail team on how to counter the situation. The employees were instructed to inform customers that since FineWoven case fibers get compressed with regular use, the texture gets discolored easily.
FineWoven has gone.
Since its durability were bad.
All the production line was stopped and removed.
Apple would move to another material—Again, not the leather. So see ya'll in leather hell.

Unfortunately, this was just a bandage solution and would not eliminate the problem related to the FineWoven case’s durability, so it is probably the right decision for Apple to halt production. However, we have not learned what the company intends to do with the existing stock, which is likely in the millions, or which alternative material it will switch to next. It looks like we will have the answer to these questions later in the year, so stay tuned for more updates.
