HKC's sub-brand Antgamer unveiled its new backlit display prototype, which is the first to reach a 1000Hz refresh rate and brings a zoned backlight for better clarity.

Antgamer Unveils 1000Hz Zoned Backlit Display, Featuring Black Frames Insertion for Smoother Visuals; Will be Launched Next Year

Recently, HKC's sub-brand Antgamer (also referred to as Ant ESports) unveiled the world's first 750Hz gaming monitor. The ANT257PF boasts a fast TN panel and is targeted at a fast-paced gaming experience. However, such a high refresh rate could be meaningless for most, since refresh rates in the 240-500Hz already feel quite fluid, but due to the backlight being continuously on, the sample-and-hold blur can somewhat ruin the experience.

To fix this, Antgamer talked about its latest 1000Hz Backlit Display in a recent conference, which will feature a Zoned backlight system. Usually, on regular LCDs, you will see the entire backlight turning on and off as a single unit. With a zoned backlight system, the backlight can be divided into several smaller zones, which can be controlled individually. This helps in producing superior contrast and can also be used in high refresh rate monitors for synchronization of zones with the refresh cycles.

The new Antgamer 1000Hz backlit display will ensure the backlight zones are synced with the refresh rates and will further combine this with the Black Frame insertion technique, which basically inserts black frames between the real frames to improve the visual and enhance fluidity. When each zone strobes quickly, it will reduce the motion blur so that our eyes don't hold the previous frame for too long, which will improve clarity at very high refresh rates such as 1000Hz.

Overall, the 1000Hz panel should be a practical way to improve the fluidity of gameplay, but achieving 1000Hz is ridiculously difficult and is impossible in most cases. We don't know if it will be realistically helpful for competitive gaming, but even if it is, it won't cater to the masses. The Antgamer 1000Hz backlit display will be launching next year, while the ANT257PF 750Hz monitor already launched at a whopping $1,110.
