Remember the Doze power mode that Google promised with Android 6.0 Marshmallow at the release of the new OS version? Well, it's started to show some really promising results!
Android Marshmallow triples standby time:
New testing has confirmed that Android 6.0 Marshmallow could lead to improved battery life on your smartphones. Compared with Android 5.1.1 Lollipop on a Nexus 5 smartphone, tests reveal that the Nexus running on Lollipop was down by 12% after 24 hours of standby. While the Nexus 5 powered by Android M was only down by 4.5%. These side-by-side standby time tests were carried out by a German blog Computerbase.
After 48 hours, Android 5.1.1 powered Nexus 5 was down by 24% and the Android Marshmallow powered Nexus was down by only 9%. Site calculated that the Lollipop powered Nexus could last a maximum of 200 hours on standby while the Marshmallow powered Nexus could go on for 533 hours on standby - 2.7 times longer! Nearly three times improved battery time is achieved here by the new Doze mode on Android Marshmallow 6.0.
Doze is a major feature of Android 6.0 Marshmallow which aims to help the devices get longer battery time by putting them to sleep. Android M doze mode intelligently powers your device down when it’s not in use for a certain time. This helps the device get more standby time. Google had claimed to achieve two times longer standby time on Nexus 9. However, latest testing gives out even more promising results. Remember, the Nexus 5 on Android M in this test was running on the very first developer preview of the operating system. It is expected that the battery time would be even better in the later Previews as Google keeps working and testing on the OS.
Marshmallow battery life would definitely take a dip when you are using the smartphone throughout the day sending emails, text messaging, watching videos, and playing games. But it is indeed a strong indication that Android Marshmallow can help you get the most out of your battery pack thanks to intelligent app shutting processes.
