Not everyone is lucky enough to get a newer and faster piece of hardware in RMA, but this user couldn't hide his excitement after receiving the upgrade.

Redditor Applies for RMA, Receives Faster Zen 5-Based Ryzen 9 9950X3D Instead of its Zen 4 Predecessor

We have seen how some users get extremely lucky when they get a free or extra piece of hardware, though this is typically due to retailer mistakes. RMA is not like that, and in most cases, users either get the hardware/device repaired or replaced, or they get rejected if there is user-induced damage. If the company is ASUS, the RMA may get rejected even if there are minor scratches on the device, even if it doesn't affect the functionality.

As far as this user is concerned, he was quite lucky to get an upgrade instead. AMD has been offering replacements for its dead Ryzen chips, and we have seen that it's mostly the Ryzen 9000X3D chips that often suffer from permanent damage. The Redditor u/Space_swag had his Ryzen 9 7950X3D dead under the warranty period. After applying for RMA, AMD sent him the newer Zen 5-based Ryzen 9 9950X3D instead.

While both offer the same 16-core/32-thread configuration, the 9950X3D is superior in architecture and performance. It also boasts a newer design that unlocks it for a full manual overclock. That said, the user said that it wasn't a surprise at his doorstep since the email he received from AMD confirmed that he was getting a newer chip, which is clear from the OPN code.

Good for him, but sometimes companies may send a different product that can be slightly inferior. I have had such experiences in the past, but most of the time, the company either sends you the exact model or the best alternative that is on par with the original product's performance/quality. If the product replacement isn't possible, companies would usually offer a refund.
