If you were waiting to buy the flagship AMD Zen 5 X3D chip, you can pre-order it before it launches officially.
AMD Ryzen 9 9950X3D2 Dual Edition Listed On Amazon for $999; Newegg Lists it As Well, but No Pre-Order Option
At $899 official MSRP, the Ryzen 9 9950X3D2 was already too expensive, but at $999, the Dual Edition has become the most expensive mainstream CPU in the current generation. After revealing the Ryzen 9 9950X3D2 Dual Edition, AMD announced that it's going to see a retail launch on April 22, which is roughly six days away from now.
The processor has already started to appear on a few retailers. Yesterday, we saw Ryzen 9 9950X3D2 getting listed for pre-orders in China, and today, we are seeing the processor on major retailers such as Amazon and Newegg. On Amazon, the processor is currently available for $999, which is $100 higher than the official MSRP announced by the company. If you remember, we saw several $999 and $1000+ listings before the official unveil, but didn't believe that the processor could carry such a hefty price tag.
Pre-Order AMD Ryzen 9 9950X3D2 Dual Edition for $999 on Amazon
Looks like it's true after all, as there will be buyers who wouldn't mind spending another 100 bucks for the flagship Zen 5 processor. AMD's Ryzen 9 9950X3D2 is the only chip that is currently carrying dual X3D chiplets, resulting in 192 MB of total L3 cache. 9950X3D2 is currently available for pre-order on Amazon US, but the shipping will commence on April 22.
The processor is also listed on Newegg, but there is no price tag, and you won't be able to place a pre-order at the moment. Pricing and buying options will mostly unlock at the official launch time. Hopefully, it doesn't get any more expensive, as the $899 price tag is too high already. Since AMD doesn't face any strong competition from Intel for its X3D chips, it's able to price the chips however it wants. Ryzen 9950X3D2 Dual Edition is already a unique product in itself, unlocking up to 200W of TDP.
If you are someone who just wants to play games, we recommend buying cheaper options like AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D or 7800X3D, or even Intel's new Core Ultra 200S Plus chips. If you want a balance of great gaming performance and high productivity, the Ryzen 9 9950X3D will be excellent as well, which is currently selling for a sub-$700 price tag.
