Despite numerous CPU failures, the Ryzen 7 9800X3D RMA rate is roughly on par with other Ryzen 9000 CPUs.
Out of 40,000 Units Shipped on Mindfactory, Only 0.71% Ryzen 7 9800X3D Boxed CPUs Were RMA'd; Intel Core i9 14900K is Still One of the Most Failed CPUs
AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D failure reports have definitely caused some panic in the community, as we see users reporting dead CPUs very frequently. While AMD and its motherboard board partners have claimed that they have been investigating the failure issues, the 9800X3D isn't the only one that suffers from such failures. In fact, there has been a rise in dead Ryzen non-X3D 9000 CPU reports, including SKUs such as Ryzen 5 9600X.
Despite this, one thing that often remains untold is the return rate of Ryzen 9800X3D or other Ryzen 9000 CPUs when compared to other processors. Popular German retailer Mindfactory's data is showing somewhat a full picture of what's happening. While it's data isn't conclusive and doesn't represent worldwide CPU sales and RMA data, it does reveal how much failures users are seeing with different CPUs.
As per the data collected by @TechEpiphanyYT and 3D Center, the Ryzen 7 9800X3D boxed edition has seen nearly 0.71% RMA requests, and it's roughly equivalent to what we have been seeing for other Ryzen 9000 CPUs as well as previous-gen CPUs. Ryzen 9 9950X3D remains with the lowest boxed RMA requests with just 0.51% rate, while Ryzen 7 9700X Boxed version has seen the most RMA requests with around 0.85% rate. These numbers aren't very high if you take a look at the RMA rates of predecessors, such as Ryzen 9000 X3D and non-X3D SKUs.
Ryzen 7 7800X3D remains with the lowest RMA rate of 0.49% while other Ryzen 7000 CPUs have seen around 0.75-1.05% RMA rates in a particular time period. The sales and RMA data appears to be corresponding for one month time frame, but it's not exactly mentioned by 3D Center. That said, in the same time period, we are seeing the most RMA requests for the Core i9 14900K (4.61% RMA rate), which has a well-known failure history due to instability.
