AMD Might Have Overlooked A Major Flaw Within Its Anti-Lag+ Feature & It Is Getting Gamers Banned In eSports Titles 1

AMD has rolled back support for Anti-Lag+ in all supported games following overwhelming reports of bans and crashes from gamers.

AMD Releases Adrenalin 23.10.2 Drivers Which Disables Anti-Lag+ Feature In All Supported Games

Last week, AMD's Anti-Lag+ feature was confirmed as the primary reason for players getting banned within popular eSports titles such as Counter-Strike 2. Following the reports, AMD asked gamers to not use the Anti-Lag+ feature in games but CS2 wasn't the only game where the feature displayed issues. More games such as Apex Legends, OverWatch 2and Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 saw similar cases and the company announced that they will be offering an update on the matter soon.

AMD has received reports of some games triggering anti-cheat bans on gamers when AMD Anti-Lag+ technology is enabled on Radeon graphics. To address this, we have released the AMD Software: Adrenalin Edition 23.10.2 driver that disables Anti-Lag+ technology in all supported games, and we recommend gamers use the new driver. AMD is actively working with game developers on a resolution to re-enable Anti-Lag+ and to help reinstate gamers who were impacted by the anti-cheat bans. We will provide more information when available.

In our detailed post here, we highlighted how AMD's Anti-Lag+ and NVIDIA's Reflex features differ. While Reflex is integrated within the game's code, Anti-Lag+ was replacing DLLs similar to injection methods which can trigger the Anti-Cheat system since that's also how cheats and hacks are used in the game. As such, you won't find any gamer getting banned using NVIDIA's Reflex since the code is authorized and embedded by the game developer. We also explained that for Anti-Lag+ to actually be work, AMD will have to work with game developers and follow an integrated approach.

Following are the pros and cons of each approach:

Native Game Integration

DLL Injection/Detouring

Following are all the games that supported Anti-Lag+ in the previous driver release but not anymore:

We will keep on updating our original post here once there's more information on the matter and if we hear a new release date for the Anti-Lag+ feature from AMD.
