AMD's next-gen RDNA 4 GPU architecture will be making its debut in early March and while the Red team is preparing for a grand unveil later this month, we now have the first initial benchmarks in Geekbench, which give us a hint at the performance of the two new cards, the Radeon RX 9070 XT and the Radeon RX 9070.
The leak also sheds light on the specifications of the two RDNA 4 GPUs. The AMD Radeon RX 9070 XT is equipped with 64 compute units or 4096 stream processors with a maximum clock rate of 2570 MHz and packages 16 GB of GDDR6 memory, while the Radeon RX 9070 is equipped with 56 compute units or 3584 stream processors. The non-XT variant has a maximum reported clock rate of 2210 MHz and features the same 16 GB GDDR6 VRAM.
In terms of performance, the AMD Radeon RX 9070 XT scored 177,395 points in Vulkan and 179,178 points in the OpenCL tests, while the Radeon RX 9070 scored 158,520 points in Vulkan and 140,842 points in the OpenCL tests.
Geekbench 6 OpenCL Benchmark (Higher is Better)
The Vulkan performance of the Radeon RX 9070 XT matches that of the Radeon RX 7900 GRE, while the Radeon RX 9070 matches the Radeon RX 7800 XT. On the OpenCL front, the Radeon RX 9070 XT is slightly faster than the Radeon RX 7900 XT, while the Non-XT variant is on par with the 7800 XT.

The AMD RDNA 4 architecture will bring in performance and efficiency enhancements, specially when using AMD RDNA 4 for AI image generation. But the major talking points would be the increased ray tracing capabilities and new AI/ML functionality which is going to be leveraged by software technologies such as FSR4. You can follow this guide to learn how to add FSR4 to any game.
The company is also expected to offer higher value positioning in the mainstream and high-end segment, so that will be something that gamers would be very interested to see. With that said, more details on the AMD RDNA 4 lineup are expected to come soon, so stay tuned.
