AMD's Phoenix 3 and Phoenix 4 APUs have been spotted, potentially pointing out an expansion of the Ryzen APU family in the near future.

AMD Has Phoenix 3 & Phoenix 4 In The Pipeline, Could We See More APUs Soon?

In the current scheme of things, AMD has sorted out its Phoenix lineup of APUs into two families, the Phoenix 1 and the Phoenix 2. In terms of the overall specification, the Phoenix 1 is entirely based on the Zen 4 core and features a higher amount of RDNA3 CUs (up to 12) compared to the latter one. The Phoenix 2 on the other hand, is relatively on the lower-end side, with a combination of Zen 4 and Zen 4c cores along with lower RDNA 3 CUs as well. This is because the benefits of Zen 4C hybrid configurations really shine in the entry-level segment but that will change in the future.

The new entrants at the PCI ID Repository reveal the inclusion of AMD Phoenix 3 and Phoenix 4 APUs, listed under the PCI IDs "1900" and "1901" respectively. This is the first time the naming convention has shown up in an actual database. As of right now, the specifications and details regarding the newly surfaced APUs are unknown, but the device IDs do suggest that the APUs will be slightly refined versus the existing chips.

The first possibility is that Phoenix 3 and Phoenix 4 are successors to the Phoenix 1 and Phoenix 2 chips and will be serving the Hawk Point "Ryzen 8040" APU family. The Hawk Point family was previously rumored to feature an upgraded RDNA 3.5 GPU architecture but the latest reports point out to the RDNA 3 architecture being reused for the chips and there are also reports that Phoenix 4 had been canceled a while back.

Komachi_ENSAKA has discovered a Github listing for the PCI ID "1901" which reveals that the Radeon 740M iGPU with RDNA 3 architecture is used for these Phoenix APUs which means that Hawk Point will definitely be reusing the same architecture.

Since it is still quite early now, you can't be sure about what to expect with Phoenix 3/4 APUs, however, it is certain that AMD will employ a similar approach to what it did with the Phoenix 1/2 APUs, given that Team Red aims at targeting several consumers segments in the industry. We expect further developments regarding the new Phoenix APUs soon so stay tuned.
