All Pixel 10 Models Now Feature Faster, More Efficient UFS 4.0 Storage, With ‘Pro’ Variants Getting ‘Zoned UFS’ Technology

All Pixel 10 model feature UFS 4.0 storage

Previous-generation Pixel smartphones shipped with the older UFS 3.1 storage, meaning that these memory chips would not just be slower than what the competition employs on its devices, but also consume more power. Thankfully, Google finally upgraded all the Pixel 10 models, including the base version, to UFS 4.0 memory, while also introducing something called Zoned UFS storage for the more premium ‘Pro’ versions. Let us discuss at length what this means for your upcoming purchase.

Google claims that its new Zoned UFS technology for the Pixel 10 Pro models aims to improve long-term performance and endurance

In addition to using the new Tensor G5, the Pixel 10 now utilizes the more advanced UFS 4.0 technology. For those unfamiliar with this change, this internal memory is significantly faster than the older UFS 3.1 standard, with Android Authority reporting up to a 200 percent increase in data transfer speeds, while consuming up to 46 percent less power. In short, all Pixel 10 models can now open up applications faster, and will not experience any performance drops during memory-intensive tasks, such as when recording high-framerate videos at bumped-up resolutions.

The company has not confirmed why it took so long to adopt UFS 4.0, but the advertising giant has also added Zoned UFS to the Pixel 10 Pro, Pixel 10 Pro XL, and the Pixel 10 Pro Fold. Zoned UFS, or ZUFS, can increase the lifespan of smartphone memory chips, pretty much confirming that Pixel 10 owners can keep ownership of their devices for longer without experiencing slowdowns or complete hardware failure. Unfortunately, as you would have guessed, not all Pixel 10 Pro models will be treated to ZUFS, with the company confirming that only the 512GB versions of the Pixel 10 Pro, Pixel 10 Pro XL, and the Pixel 10 Pro Fold will be shipping with this technology.

While U.S. customers might be able to grab themselves the higher capacity variants, Google might not extend the same preferential treatment to other markets, forcing potential buyers to import them at their own risk. Then again, we will not recommend that any consumer hold onto their smartphones for several years because there is always a time when a successor comes along and is loaded with features that are just too tempting to ignore. If you have yet to upgrade to a flagship, Amazon is running a solid promotion where you can pre-order the Pixel 10 family from $799 onwards and get a $100 gift card with zero conditions attached.
