On a single charge, the AirPods Pro 3 can last up to 8 hours with Active Noise Cancellation enabled, and up to 10 hours when using Transparency Mode. On both occasions, Apple’s latest wireless earbuds offer better runtime than their immediate predecessor, that is, until you start checking out the in-depth specifications. In short, the individual earbuds could have bigger cells that help the AirPods Pro 3 to last longer, but it is another story when you factor in the battery case.

The AirPods Pro 3 with the battery case can last for up to 24 hours, down from the 30-hour endurance of the AirPods Pro 2

When perusing the specifications of the AirPods Pro 3, we found that the overall battery life is up to 24 hours with the included battery case. While obtaining a whole day’s worth of endurance sounds nice, it is disappointing to learn that the AirPods Pro 2 with the case provides up to 30 hours of runtime. In short, in its quest to deliver the best wireless earbuds with impeccable battery life, Apple actually took two steps backward with the AirPods Pro 3. So why is the overall runtime lower?

It might have to do with the AirPods Pro 3’s case housing a smaller battery than the AirPods Pro 2’s accessory. If you look at the weight, the new case is actually lighter, meaning that our assumption regarding the device featuring a smaller cell could be correct. It is worth mentioning that the AirPods Pro 3 case features Apple’s latest U2 chip, so either it has battery-guzzling properties that result in reduced runtimes, or the silicon takes up a lot of space inside an enclosure that shares pretty much the same dimensions as the AirPods Pro 2 case.

Regardless, the AirPods Pro 3 itself ships with a truckload of features that you would love to have and experience, especially over the AirPods Pro 2. Thankfully, you have the option to either pre-order Apple’s newest wireless earbuds from Amazon for $249, with the product expected to launch on September 19, or you can opt to save some cash and get the AirPods Pro 2 for $199 at 20 percent off if you have not already.
