AirPods 4 reviews are here

Apple unveiled two versions of its AirPods 4 at its ‘It’s Glowtime’ event; one with Active Noise Cancellation and one that comes without the feature. For those who still have not picked one up because they were eyeing the AirPods Pro 2, perhaps these reviews will change your mind. Of course, Apple’s latest wireless earbuds are not without their flaws, so it is imperative to read various experiences to get a better picture of the product. The video reviews are also given right at the end if you want to jump straight into the action.

CNN’s Mike Andronico believes that the new AirPods 4 deliver audio quality that is on par with the AirPods Pro 2 thanks to the Active Noise Cancellation that Apple added. However, he criticizes the lack of earbuds and prefers a secure fit thanks to the ear tips, which are only available with the AirPods Pro.

“These buds offer sound quality that rivals the AirPods Pro 2 across the board and — for folks that spring for the $179 model — active noise cancellation that does the same. But since they’re otherwise so similar to their more premium counterpart, you’ll really have to ask yourself what kind of fit you prefer; not to mention how much you’re willing to give up for a lower price.

I’ve always preferred the secure fit provided by a pair of ear tips, and after polling the Underscored staff, most of my colleagues feel the same way. But there were a good handful of outliers that professed their love for an open design. Some find this style more comfortable; others feel it helps them better stay aware of their surroundings. One of them just finds ear tips gross, which is valid!”

As for Billy Steele from Engadget, the AirPods 4 are not a great deal because the AirPods Pro 2 can be had for nearly the same price. As for the base version, he states that these offer a major upgrade compared to the previous version and are ideal for those who do not prefer the Active Noise Cancellation bit.

“With the noise-canceling AirPods 4, Apple has bridged the gap between the entry level model and the AirPods Pro. The ANC version gets nearly all of what makes the AirPods Pro 2 so good, except for the most powerful noise cancellation, the upcoming hearing health features and a few other items. However, a $179 set of AirPods isn’t a great deal right now with the AirPods Pro 2 available for nearly the same price if you catch them on sale.

The $129 AirPods 4 is a big improvement over the previous version though, and they’re a worthwhile update for fans of the basic, non-ANC formula. The question then becomes if you prefer the open design and can live without the Pro’s extras. Both versions of the AirPods 4 have their merits, but for once, price won’t be a deciding factor when choosing between two Apple products.”

CNET’s David Carnoy says that the regular AirPods 4 have their place in the market but advises customers to wait around the holiday season, as these wireless earbuds would drop to $99. However, he says that the ones with Active Noise Cancellation are special as they simply work right off the bat.

“If you’re looking for basic AirPods, the standard AirPods 4 certainly have their appeal and should cost closer to $100 during flash sales, especially around the holidays. They may not be quite as cheap or as small as the AirPods 2, but they sound a lot better and have a lot more features.

Ultimately, however, the AirPods 4 ANC are simply more special. As I said, they're the first open buds I've tried to have active noise canceling that actually works. That makes them the first noise-canceling earbuds for people who don't like having ear tips jammed in their ears. That's pretty cool and worth the extra $50 if you can afford it.”

If you have still not picked a pair, Amazon continues to take pre-orders for both versions, with the non-ANC model carrying a $129 price, while the premium variant will set you back by $179. However, as we write this, Apple’s AirPods Pro 2 have been discounted on the online retailer by 24 percent and listed for just $189.99.

Assuming that the high-end wireless earbuds continued to sell for $249, we would have immediately recommended the ANC version of the AirPods 4. In this case, if you are willing to spend the extra $10, you will have a quality product in your hands, and if you choose to save that money, you will not regret it either way.
