It's not surprising to see non-X3D processors dying on ASRock motherboards, but Ryzen 9600X failure reports are emerging more frequently.
At Least Four Ryzen 5 9600X Dead on ASRock Motherboards in a Month, and Several More Reports Indicate a Similar Failure
We are witnessing a surge in reporting dead Ryzen 5 9600X CPUs these days, and while it's not uncommon to see non-X3D chips getting cooked on motherboards, reports for these CPUs are often occasional. In the last 30 days or so, we have seen at least four cases of dead Ryzen 5 9600X, specifically on ASRock motherboards. There may have been more cases of dead 9600X, including motherboards from other vendors, but here is what we have found.
Around four to five users have reported a dead Ryzen 9600X on ASRock 600 or 800 series motherboards in recent days, and there are a couple of more reports that, even though doesn't state it explicitly, could be cases of CPU failure. Considering the extent of the troubleshooting these users have already performed, it appears that their systems have witnessed CPU deaths. Most of them reported that their PC won't even post, like u/NojuslsCute and u/RobotRollCall24.
Both users said their PCs were initially working fine, but suddenly the DRAM or CPU debug LEDs began lighting up continuously. With no troubleshooting method resolving the issue, this could point to a possible CPU failure. That said, some users have just RMA'd their CPUs as they could confirm CPU deaths on their systems. User u/etrain1804 reports that his system with ASRock B850M PRO RS worked fine for 8 months, but now the CPU is dead and has been sent for replacement.
Then we have u/Shelcreature reporting dead Ryzen 9600X twice. The first incident occurred in October 2025, but he got a replacement. In around three months, his second CPU died too. He was using an ASRock B850M Pro-A Wifi motherboard and confirmed that his second CPU died while his motherboard was using BIOS v3.50, which was released in September 2025.
The third case involves u/SpecificSun9142's system, which used the ASRock B850M PRO RS WiFi, and in around six months, his Ryzen 9600X died as well. The fourth case is of u/GamerGoblin, who also witnessed Ryzen 9600X deaths twice. It's insane how many of these have been killed in a month, but it does raise a question about the stability. It's not just the 9800X3D that suffers from this problem; we have Ryzen 9600X, Ryzen 9700X, Ryzen 9950X/3D, and even some Ryzen 7000 series CPUs seeing the same fate.
