Inno3D 9800GTX 512MB
Dec 08, 2008 - 8:30 PM - by FIREBLADE

INTRODUCTION

Last month I reviewed XFX 8800GT Zalman Edition and made an attempt to show how it can almost compete with a stock 9800GTX once decently overclocked.. It was a very good graphics card that produced excellent scores in all benchmarks. Today I would be looking at 9800GTX and see how far can we go with this one. Today’s 9800GTX comes from Inno3D, a brand usually associated as budget card manufacturer, catering for the lower-end of the market. Before testing this card I used to believe the same. I remember my last high end GPU from Inno3D was 7800GTX which proved to be a bad overclocker and since then I never dared to use any other GPU brand except XFX due to their solid brand name and decent overclocking potential. But it's amazing how fast things can change. The notion that Inno3D is a budget card manufacturer doesn’t hold true anymore. Not only that Inno3D is producing high-end graphics card now, they've also become one of Nvidia's main board... [Read More]

WCG 2008 Grand Final - Pictorial
Nov 25, 2008 - 7:51 PM - by Neomatrix
After the successful Wateen WCG 2008 National Finals in Lahore (Oct 2008), I was provided the opportunity by Wateen to lead Pakistan's team of Gold Medalists in Counter Strike, Warcraft 3, Fifa and Command & Conquer 3 in the WCG Grand Finals in Cologne, Germany. The event was awesome!! I have captured different moments of the tour through my camera. For your viewing pleasure, I have created a separate album for WCG 2008 Grand Finals which covers the trip to Cologne, the youth hostel where we stayed, the venue and pics of some of the top players of the World.

Our players did a magnificent job in WCG 2008 and beat several other countries in Round 1. Unfortunately, they could not qualify for the next round but have learned a lot through this experience. Not is all lost as we come back home as proud Pakistanis and victorious. The performance will surely help Pakistan's ranking in WCG and next year Inshallah we will WIN BIG. A special thanks to Wateen for sponsoring and making the trip possible!

DeepCool Killer Whale CPU HSF

Couple of days ago I saw this CPU cooler in Astro Systems (Subsidiary of Astrontech Distributors) Hafeez Centre Lahore. I was intrigued as its design looked attractive but manufacturer name did not ring a bell. After returning home I tried to search its review on internet but search didn’t return any matching results for Deep Cool Killer Whale. Contrary to my expectation most of the links contained stats of deep sea life form. Anyways on my next visit to Hafeez Centre I asked Abu Bakar Bhai (Manager Operations) of Astrontech Distributors (and also a friend of mine) that I would like to do a review of this cooler. He agreed and I brought the cooler with me and began testing.

Some info on manufacturer
Deep Cool is a Chinese based company and is a manufacturer of several other Computer hardware cooling equipment. More info about the company and its products is available at.

Review: XFX 8800GT Zalman Edition
Nov 21, 2008 - 8:15 PM - by FIREBLADE

About 2 weeks back I went to computer market looking for some good mid end nVidia GPU. I know lot of people would ask why nVidia when there are good Radeons available at a very competitive price. The reason was simple. I wanted to experiment with nVidia PHYSX and GPGPU stuff for which I must have two nVidia GPUs working in non-sli configuration. I already had XFX 9600GT which is now being used as a second GPU dedicated for PHYSX work. I will try to post about my PHYSX findings later in another thread as in this thread I’ll share my experience about XFX 8800GT 512MB ZALMAN edition, which was available at a price equivalent to 9600GTs. 9800GTs were available at Rs.15,000/- at that time and I knew that 9800GTs are just rebranded 8800GTs with the same G92 chip. Some newer 9800GTs are on a smaller die size (55nm rather than 65nm) but are hard to find, besides the box won’t tell you if... [Read More]

World Cyber Games - Finals - First Day
Nov 09, 2008 - 12:30 AM - by KuRsEd
Following are the results of team Pakistan from first day of the final round of World Cyber Games 2008.

And this time, quite a few of them managed to win their league matches. Bilal [Stud - WarCraft III] and Waleed [Smooth Criminal - Fifa 08] deserve special accolades since they won most of their bouts and got 2nd positions - but were unlucky to not to have made it to the final rounds, on technical grounds.

OVer all, team Pakistan did better than what most of us had anticipated and for that their efforts should be recognized. Also, a special thanks to Wateen for sponsoring e-games in Pakistan and for enabling these kids to compete on international level.
