Thumbs down PTCL has increased the Dial-up charges

I just read today that when accessing internet on Dial-up, PTCL is charging a local call after every 15 mins! as previously compared to a single call for unlimited usage, for every internet session! When all taxes are added a person ends up paying Rs. 12 to 20 per hour! (Of course, it depends on which company's packages you're using).

This has been implemented for quite some time without any prior notice. That explains why my phone bill has increased manifold. A person using internet three hours daily, for a whole month will have to pay more than Rs. 1000 (and that too on minimum charges), which is damn close to DSL rates!!!

What the hell, My hatred for Shaukat Aziz have increased 3.5 times!

yea i agree!! we only think abt WCCF members! but bahar dekho to normally ppl r using dialups ... some even dnt knw abt DSL much nd their rates have fallen! and some just dnt care since they dnt use internet tht much! ... and some r restricted! so many reasons! nd there r more dialup users here then DSL users! ...and dialup rates should b reduced! and also call rates! pehla 1 r.s ya kuch aisay thi local call and after midnight it was free or some paisas! nd now they have increased rates again! pff

Shaukat aziz was the one who semi privatized it in the first place and then completely privitized it in the second go just to show how much losses is PTCL in tht the government coudnt handle them.

Dial-up is not completely useless in my opinion and at times if our coveted DSL/Cable connections do not work then it can be used as a backup in times of some emergency if needed.

On the contrary the vast majority of Internet users in Pakistan use dial up. Broadband is only used by 1% of Internet users:

Broadband Penetration in Pakistan - Is Pakistan underserved? at wiredpakistan

That is why forums like wiredpakistan use lightweight punbb instead of the bulkier vbulletin that wccftech uses. wccftech is unusable on dialup and hence the vast majority of wccftech users are on broadband.
