Just now a guy from Wateen came at my doorstep and said here is your your free gift from Wateen.
He had a green Wateen box in his hand. I asked him...es mein modem hay kia? He said...kutch juices waghaira hain. I accepted the gift (naturally ) but also said...bhai mujhe Wateen ka internet chaheay, juices tu mein store say ja ker lay sakta houn kiunkay by now I am sick and tired of this crap called Worldcall broadband...He said Wateen internet would reach here (sector T) next month inshallah... So at the moment I am to be contended with 9 cans of different Malee products... ![]() But he sort of surprised me by telling Wateen Internet is going to be DSL via usual physical cables lying underground... whereas so far I was having the perception that Wateen net is going to be the Wimax thing reaching us wirelessly... ![]() Moreover, I read this on wateen website: "Wateen has started its service in 22 Cities with almost blanket coverage to all cities. However due to certain complex building structures, locations behind high rise buildings or heavy obstacles, the signal strength might be compromised." Does this mean wateen customers shall be getting same lousy internet experience like we are currently getting from Worldcall?

This thread has too many posts. "Anybody having an idea when Wateen is going to launch Broadband Internet.?" Thought that would be a one-page thread.

well guys, if you are not already fed up by the hype about wateen launch, here is another thing to add in your "waiting" list
"another around the corner launch perhaps!!"http://www.brecorder.com/index.php?i...term=&supDate= PTCL may launch IPTV service in October ISLAMABAD (August 19 2007): The Pakistan Telecommunication Company Limited (PTCL) plans to launch an Internet Protocol Television (IPTV) service in October, said Dr Abdul Jabbar, director-general, Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (Pemra) on Saturday. "The PTCL has won the first licence to launch IPTV service which would be a landmark development in the country's telecom industry," he added. Dr Jabbar said other companies that meet the set criteria would also be issued such licenses, adding the Authority would monitor the IPTV service on the basis of the parameters being followed regarding electronic channels. The Internet Protocol Television is a system where a digital television service is delivered by using Internet protocol over a network infrastructure, which may include delivery by a broadband connection. A general definition of the IPTV is television content that, instead of being delivered through traditional broadcast and cable formats, is received by the viewer through the technologies used for computer networks. For residential users, the IPTV is often provided in conjunction with Video on Demand and may be bundled with Internet services such as Web access and VoIP. The commercial bundling of IPTV, VoIP and Internet access is referred to as 'Triple Play' service. The IPTV is supplied by a service-provider using a closed network infrastructure. This network competes with the delivery of TV content over the public Internet, called Internet Television. The PTCL project is supported by Chinese telecom equipment giant, Huawei and Irdeto, a Netherlands-based content security company. Huawei will provide the servers and set-top boxes while Irdeto will provide content security solutions. Last time we received this "green" pack, they made us wait for 1.5 years and made us suffer due to all this digging and dust.......I wonder how much this new pack will make us suffer :-) Last edited by naveedch; 20-08-07 at 03:27 PM.. i wont count on iptv just yet ... a couple of the members here were complaining as to how their modems range out and all .. iptv works on the same dsl line ... so if they cant maintain stable internet .. i doubt they'll be able to maintain the tv ..
plus the upfront cost for iptv is relatively higher than cable.. and is only preferrable for areas where cable isnt already present .. plus its expensive over too |
