I am glad that you have enough knowledge to know that Muharaam is the beginning of the Islamic Calender but It's also the beginning of a tragic event in the Muslim history known as Ashura. Therefore most Muslims regardless of their faith tend not to wish it.

Happy New Islamic Year... tragedies have happened and we should never forget them but greeting others for the new Islamic year with wishes of prosperity, health and stronger beliefs is a good thing.

May Allah bless us all and forgive our sins and give us the strength to stay on the righteous path in this era of war, disbelief and destruction.

I am not sure it's a good thing, but it is definitely controversial. Did you ever hear anyone in your daily life or on TV actually greeting you if it is really a 'good' thing to do. At least i never did. The first Muharam in particular marks the Death anniversary of Hadhart Umer (RA) which most of the Sunni Muslims commemorate as the Yom-e-Shahada for the second Caliph. any way I am done here.
