YouTube is doing something different in the form of testing new generative AI features that should make the platform a lot more intuitive. So far, my only idea about using the platform is to look up obscure clips from old movies or perhaps check out some new music videos, but Google thinks there is more to the platform than just these things, and having generative AI features is always a good thing.
YouTube's new generative AI features should improve the user experience
Google has announced that it is currently testing new generative AI experiments for YouTube. The new features include AI-generated comment summaries, as well as a conversational AI tool.
The first one is simply AI summaries for comments, and it is a tool that summarizes comment topics into easily understandable themes. The reason behind this tool is simple, it is going to make users want to participate in discussions within the comment sections and for creators to actually take feedback from the comments. On principle, the idea seems solid, and I'm waiting to see how good the implementation is.
This AI experience will be visible on select English videos to select users. Users in this experiment will see a new option to sort comments by Topics on some videos. Google has mentioned that some YouTube Premium members will be able to opt in and test out the feature. You can opt-in by going here.
YouTube creators can also use these comment summaries to jump into discussions. They can remove the comment topic by individually deleting the comments that make up the topic. It is worth noting that the comment topics are generated from comments that are already published.
The second feature that YouTube is going to get is in the form of a conversational AI tool. Using this tool, you will be able to get answers to questions that you might have about the video. In addition to that, you can also get recommendations for similar content and more. The best thing is that you will be able to use this tool within the platform without actually pausing the video, making it a seamless experience.
I am really glad that YouTube is currently testing out these features but take note that they are still in the experimental stage, which means that there is a possibility that these features might never make it to public. However, if we do hear more about the platform introducing similar features, we will be sure to let you know.
