According to Gran Turismo creator Kazunori Yamauchi, the assets for the upcoming GT Sport are over-specced even for the PS4 Pro, and there’s no problem to run them in 8K resolution.

That’s what the designer and CEO of Polyphony Digital said during studio tour with Finder.com. According to Yamauchi, the assets that are being created for GT Sport, are being built for the future version of the PlayStation console, most probably hinting at the PS5.

"It takes six months to create a single car. It’s over-specced for PS4 Pro”, Yamauchi told Finder. “So we are building for future versions of the console rather than the one we see today".

He later clarified that statement, saying that he believes that the created assets for the upcoming racer would have no problem running at 8K resolution. “I think it would be no problem to run it at 8K even”, he added.

Clearly, Yamauchi means that the assets created for GT Sport could very well run at 8K on PlayStation 5. Based on these statements from Yamauchi, it’s safe to say that Polyphony is future-proofing its Gran Turismo assets for future Gran Turismo titles on PS4 successors.

Gran Turismo Sport is slated for a release on PS4 and PS4 Pro on October 18th, 2017. It will run at 4K@60fps via checkerboard rendering, with HDR and Wide Color Gamut support.
