Earlier this week, new rumors on the upgraded PlayStation 4 console, now known as NEO, has surfaced online, revealing more on the actual upgrades the new console will feature. Not much is known about a possible upgraded Xbox One from Microsoft, but it seems like the company has been working on something that seems to suggest that an Xbox 1.5 might be coming as well.
Sources familiar with Microsoft's Xbox plans have recently revealed to The Verge that a variety of Xbox prototype devices are currently being tested by the company. Some of these prototypes, apparently, sport upgraded component. With a recent reveal of a new Xbox One wireless chip with a new model number, it's quite likely that Microsoft is getting ready to release an upgraded Xbox One console in the vein of the PlayStation 4 NEO.
Microsoft's stance on the matter isn't exactly clear. A while back, Phil Spencer revealed that he isn't a big fan of Xbox One and a half, stating that they will move forward in big numbers, if they are going to move forward, with some substantial changes. The most recent reports, however, seem to contradict these statements.
As mentioned above, the new PlayStation 4, called NEO, will come with some upgraded features such as 8 Jaguar Cores at 2.1 GHz, an improved AMD GCN, 36 CUs at 911 MHz and 8GB GDDR5, 218 GB/s. A release window for the console has yet to be pinned down, apparently, but developers will be allowed to develop games for the NEO before its release, with all games launching from October onwards requiring to include a Base mode for the original PS4, and a NEO mode for the new model. Older titles will require a patch to take advantage of the NEO model enhancements.
