Alongside the news that Xbox decided to get out of the way of GTA 6 and delay Fable to February 2027, on the official Xbox Insider podcast, chief content officer Matt Booty set expectations for the upcoming Xbox Games Showcase on June 7. Booty shut down any suspicions that the showcase would feature anything beyond upcoming games, which means no new Project Helix news.
"Another thing about Showcase I'll say is that the focus is going to be on these games," Booty began. "We really want to focus on the teams and on the games, and this is not going to be a place where we're going to talk about strategy broadly."
"There are certainly some strategic things that are out there and things we want to bring clarity to. But the focus here is on the games. For the long term, we want to make the right decisions, not the fast decisions, and I can also say that there won't be [Project] Helix news. Helix will not be in this Showcase. Again, we want to get everything about that right, so we're really focused on the games now."
While Booty is clearly setting up expectations around Project Helix, it also appears that he's more indirectly setting expectations for what we'll hear on other major questions floating around Xbox now. Of course, when Booty is talking about how we won't hear more about Xbox's strategy going forward, he could just be talking about Helix, but he could very well also be talking about hot-button issues like exclusive games.
Xbox launched a new way for fans to give direct feedback to the platform just last week, and almost immediately, the top issue on the forum was first-party exclusive titles, with many players asking for Xbox to return to that model rather than release its first-party games on Nintendo and PlayStation consoles as well.
As much as Booty is telling players not to expect Project Helix news, he's also seemingly telling us that we shouldn't expect Xbox to have made up its mind on exclusives just yet, so we should expect to see games featured in the showcase that are coming to multiple platforms, not just Xbox. Which, Booty also commented on, saying, "We'll be very clear about what platforms a game is coming to, and want to continue the precedent," he said. "I think we've got a good system going where we make it clear in Showcase."
