Digital Bros Buys WUCHANG: Fallen Feathers IP for €4 Million, Reviving Sequel Hopes After Leenzee Reportedly Disbanded the Core Team

A character from the game 'WUCHANG: Fallen Feathers' holds a glowing sword against a dark, mystical background.

WUCHANG: Fallen Feathers was one of several Soulslike action games to hit the market since the sub-genre became incredibly popular within the last decade. While it didn't set the world on fire, it didn't bomb either, so players were fairly shocked at reports earlier this month that the core development team at Leenzee Games had been dissolved. Now, however, after it looked like we wouldn't see another game in the series, hope for a sequel is slightly renewed, as the rights for the WUCHANG: Fallen Feathers IP have been purchased by Digital Bros., the parent company of the game's publisher, 505 Games.

The purchase was made for approximately €4 million according to a press release, and the transaction "secures full ownership of the IP for the Group [Digital Bros], enabling full retention of the value generated throughout its lifecycle and eliminating any future royalty obligations to the developer."

The statement goes on to share that the game "demonstrated strong commercial traction, reaching the top position in Steam's Global Top Sellers chart ahead of release and attracting over 130K concurrent users on Steam on launch day." The statement also gives us a bit of insight into how well the game has done since launch, citing that it has sold over 1 million copies as of March 31, 2026, since it launched last year.

Those sales have generated "more than €30 million in revenues (net of tax duties and commissions), confirming the strength of the product and its long-term potential," the statement continues. "Securing the IP will enhance the Group's ability to make timely decisions regarding its future development and related investments."

That last line is the one that fans of WUCHANG: Fallen Feathers can latch onto. It's the one that at least holds the door open for another game in the 'WUCHANG' series, which was previously seemingly closed by Leenzee.

As previously mentioned, earlier this month, we saw reports of the core development team behind WUCHANG: Fallen Feathers getting dissolved within Leenzee. The reports claimed that while the game's director and the core development team wanted to make another sequel, the studio's leadership wanted to take the company in a different direction, and instead focus on being a support studio instead of working on another internally-developed title.

The disagreement between the game's director and leadership reportedly saw the director get dismissed from the company, after which the rest of the game's development team were separated and placed in different roles within Leenzee.

That's why any hope of another WUCHANG game was seemingly dead, so long as the IP stayed with Leenzee. Now that it's entirely under the control of Digital Bros. and 505 Games, it could be the case that they reassemble much of the original development team and give them a chance at making a sequel, or at least the very least find another team to get a sequel going.

Of course, it's not a surefire thing either way. Digital Bros could be unsuccessful in assembling the original development team, finding another team to take over the game, or simply reaching a deal to get the game done with whoever it does find to take over a sequel project. This deal could also just be more about ensuring Digital Bros is earning the all of the revenue from the game's sales.

Hopefully, it's nothing as cynical as that, and we'll see some good news around WUCHANG: Fallen Feathers soon.
