The Witcher 3 Gets Unofficial DLSS 4.5 Multi Frame Gen Mod, Tripling Frame Rates a Decade After Launch

Geralt of Rivia from The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is featured with a 'Free Next-Gen Update,' alongside text stating, 'RTX. It's On. Ray tracing and NVIDIA DLSS available now.'

A few days ago, modder PureDark released an upscaler that implements NVIDIA DLSS 4.5 with Dynamic Multi Frame Generation into The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt.

CD Projekt RED's game did not launch with NVIDIA DLSS, though of course, that's because its May 2015 debut far predates the advent of DLSS, which was first released in February 2019. However, it was updated with NVIDIA DLSS Super Resolution, Frame Generation, Reflex, and ray traced global illumination, ambient occlusion, shadows, and reflections when the developers dropped the so-called The Witcher 3 Next-Generation update in December 2022.

PureDark's mod replaces the game's default Streamline 1.x with Streamline 2.11.1 and adds support for DLSS Multi-Frame Generation on RTX 50 Series GPUs and Dynamic MFG. The reason the swap is necessary is that the older Streamline version bundled with the game is incompatible with MFG, which requires at least version 2.7.3. The mod is available through PureDark's Patreon at the Supporter tier ($5 per month) and above. Premium membership also grants access to PureDark's full library of upscaler mods for other titles.

The mod offers both fixed and dynamic multiplier modes. Fixed MFG lets you manually select a 2x, 3x, 4x, or up to 6x frame multiplier, while Dynamic MFG automatically adjusts the multiplier based on scene load to target your display's maximum refresh rate.

Content creator Gaming DJ tested the mod on an RTX 5070 Ti with Ray Tracing Ultra settings and reports that a 30 FPS base delivers 60 FPS at 2x, 90 FPS at 3x, and up to 180 FPS at 6x. However, the visual quality degrades noticeably above 3x, with garbled textures appearing around character models and UI elements. The sweet spot is 3x, where the smoothness gains are substantial and artifacts remain difficult to spot during normal play. It should be noted that this is just the first build, so these issues may be addressed in subsequent versions of the upscaler.
