In short, if you want a better gaming experience for Where Winds Meet, get an iPhone 17 Pro or iPhone 17 Pro Max

The open-world action RPG from Everstone Studio has reached new heights in popularity, as Where Winds Meet has surpassed 9 million downloads on PC and PS5. This figure is expected to go higher, as the free-to-play title is now available to download from both Apple’s App Store and Google’s Play Store.

If you own a flagship smartphone, the experience will be enjoyable, especially on the iPhone 17 Pro Max, thanks to its A19 Pro chipset. According to an initial gameplay and graphics comparison, you’ll witness better stability on Apple’s latest and greatest flagships compared to an Android handset sporting the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5.

REDMAGIC 11 Pro’s liquid cooling and dedicated fan taming the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 isn’t enough in Where Winds Meet, as the latter’s ‘1% lows’ metric is worse than the A19 Pro’s

The initial comparison was performed by Dame Tech, showing that there are a host of graphics settings on both the iOS and Android ports that you can adjust to obtain better performance. Thankfully, both the A19 Pro and Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 can easily handle Where Winds Meet at 60FPS, but the iPhone 17 Pro Max can render the game at a higher resolution compared to the REDMAGIC 11 Pro.

Also, looking at the gameplay footage, we noticed that the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 offered less of a stable experience, though the thermals appear to be normal. It is possible that there are some additional updates that could polish the game’s stability, as its 1% lows were lower than what the A19 Pro obtained. During the boss fights, both chipsets achieved the following 1% lows.

Playing Where Winds Meet on an iPhone 17 Pro Max hardly saw any frame drops, and with the title running at a higher resolution, you are guaranteed some ‘eye candy’ too. Keep in mind that the Snapdragon 8 Elite 5 running in the REDMAGIC 11 Pro is equipped with both liquid cooling and a dedicated fan to control those temperatures, so we doubt that thermal throttling was occurring during any part of this comparison.

As mentioned above, we strongly believe that some future updates for the game will iron out some of the problems that we witnessed in the YouTuber’s initial comparison. We would also like to remind readers that we experienced occasional frame drops on an RTX 4090 gaming laptop, so it is likely that you will run into the same problems.
