Kingdom Come: Deliverance makers Warhorse Studios hosted a Reddit AMA yesterday, and while the positive side of the event included confirmation that it is working on "a huge immersive RPG," several of the questions instead focused on allegations that the studio fired one of its translators after his role was made "obsolete in favor of using AI for all translations going forward."

At the time of the allegations, Warhorse's response was that it "has always been a talent-driven studio, and we deeply value the people who shape our work. Out of respect for the privacy and dignity of both current and former colleagues, we will not discuss individual situations publicly."

Now, it added a bit to that response, telling players that it hears them and their concerns. It then added, "We do not see AI as a substitute for human work, and we are currently looking to expand the company, including our translation team. Some team members find AI useful during early stages of production. However, we do not use AI-generated content in the final game and we have no plans to change this in the future."

That response was what Warhorse's participating members repeated or linked to whenever the question of Max Hejtmánek's firing was brought up, alongside the following response which matched its the studio's first statement on the whole matter more closely, as they replied that the topic "touches on internal HR matters," and that they cannot "comment on any present or past employee" as it would be unprofessional. They would then emphasize that the studio is "currently in the process of hiring new English translators. Actual humans."

Neither statement offers any clarity compared to Hejtmánek's allegations, but they do establish a precedent going forward that no AI-generated content should appear in Warhorse Studios games now and in the future. Not that it has had any moment of scandal with either Kingdom Come: Deliverance game, where players discovered AI-generated assets, like what happened to Crimson Desert recently, but the statement is a clear line in the sand.

And if the onslaught of questions about the studio's use of Generative AI (GenAI) across the entire Reddit AMA is any sign, it's clear that players won't forget to ask whenever Warhorse does get ready to start talking about its next release. Not that those concerns players have will seemingly impact sales.

Not only is that a trend we've not seen based on other titles still selling like gangbusters despite known use of GenAI (ARC Raiders, Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, Crimson Desert, The Alters, etc.), but several of the users expressing concerns to Warhorse Studios couched their comments with praise for the team's work and added that they'd still look forward to what the studio does next, whether it's the next Kingdom Come: Deliverance game or something else.
