OpenAI has been introducing a handful of features for users with more controls and accessibility options, and the latest addition could allow you to seek help from the platform even if you do not have an internet connection. The company behind ChatGPT has announced the ability to call the service with your phone line if your internet is down.
OpenAI now allows users to have a conversation with ChatGPT over phone calls as well as WhatsApp
As mentioned, OpenAI has been adding a slew of new features and enhancements for users, potentially allowing it to better penetrate the market against the competition. The company announced in a live stream on YouTube that users now have the option to call ChatGPT instead of relying on apps and the official website for the service. What this means is that even if you are out of cellular data, you can still use ChatGPT for specific queries.
In the United States, you can now call 1-800-CHATGPT or 1-800-242-8478 to talk to ChatGPT and get access to the same level of information as you would on your smartphone or your laptop. This is not a standard port, as the company used Advanced Voice Mode technology to provide a more natural conversation with the caller. OpenAI has showcased a demo of the feature in its live stream, and you can also check the Voice call feature in action in the video embedded below.
If you are wondering what the feature is for, OpenAI states that the idea behind it is to make ChatGPT more accessible in areas without an internet connection. OpenAI gave the example of users on a road trip who wish to gain information regarding a specific thing without having to upload a video or a photo. While it is a pretty neat addition for those who travel a lot to areas with low to no internet coverage, the company has also announced additional features for smartphone users.
The company also announced ChatGPT support for WhatsApp, which would allow users to chat back and forth with the chatbot simply through texts directly from Meta's WhatsApp platform. Users can save the same number mentioned above and simply start chatting through WhatsApp. The company also states that it is working on seamless account syncing with WhatsApp, but currently, you will have to use it without an account. We will share more details on ChatGPT and its forthcoming features, so be sure to stick around for more.
