At its WWDC event in June, Apple saw fit to announce a plethora of software as well as hardware upgrades. The company announced the new 15-inch MacBook Air, which is essentially the same machine as the 13-inch model but with a bigger form factor. Apple also announced its highly anticipated Vision Pro headset with a lot going for it. It packs enormous processing power and a sleek design, different from anything out in the market. Since the dual 4K displays inside the wearable are a major component, it is now being reported that the Apple Vision Pro display will feature a 90Hz refresh rate that can go up to 100Hz.

Apple's Vision Pro headset is the company's first major product since the introduction of the Apple Watch in 2015. The company holds immense pressure to secure the headset as a visible product for the end user. To tackle this, the company is working with developers and creators to devise appropriate use cases. Since Vision Pro is scheduled to launch early next year, Apple has some time to develop appropriate strategies and has already sent out Developer Kits of the Vision Pro. Leaker DuanRui on X (formerly known as Twitter) states that the Vision Pro refresh rate is set to 90Hz by default and can go up to 100Hz.

What this means is that the Vision Pro could come with a variable refresh rate display. It is great to see Apple is recognizing 90Hz as a default refresh rate standard for the Vision Pro. The headset can also go up to 100Hz depending on the content being consumed on the headset. The higher refresh rate screen could be beneficial for games and media consumption on the device. Since the content is displayed much closer to your eyes than a 60Hz display on a smartphone, it would have been easier to spot the difference. Additionally, the company could have set the refresh rate to 90Hz by default to save battery life compared to always showing content at 100Hz.
Other than this, the leak also highlights information related to Sony's panel for the Vision Pro. It appears that the headset will feature up to 5000 nits of brightness stretching across a 1.42-inch screen. As mentioned earlier, the Vision Pro headset will be available to the general public potentially in the first quarter of next year. While the hardware of the device is pretty capable, it remains to be seen how developers utilize the new technology. The company could offer applications related to productivity as well as entertainment.
