Apple announced its Vision Pro headset in June at its WWDC 2023 event. Since its unveiling, the company has been working with developers to create advanced use cases for the wearable. The company is also testing visionOS, which is currently in beta. Apple stated that Vision Pro would hit the shelves in early 2024 but failed to give users an exact release date. The first official Apple-designed Vision Pro accessory has come to light in a new patent, which could be available with the Vision Pro at launch.
Apple is working on a case for the Vision Pro to protect the EyeSight display, as hinted in the accessory's design patent
The new Vision Pro accessory was seen in a recent design patent filing from Hong Kong, discovered by PatentlyApple. Last week, the company was given 70 additional design patents for the forthcoming headset. However, a new accessory has come to the surface with various images showing the product from multiple directions. The accessory appears to look pretty similar to the Vision Pro in terms of design.
On the first look, the accessory would be easy to identify as it appears identical to the front of the Vision Pro headset. However, it only covers the front portion of the headset while the back is open. The accessory could have been designed to protect the EyeSight display of the Vision Pro while the Light Seal is visible. The accessory may act as a protective case for the headset so the front display does not scratch.
Other than this, the Vision Pro accessory also shows a small tab on one side. The tab is potentially designed to remove the accessory from the headset easily. As for the material, the accessory appears to use the same soft-touch woven fabric to cover the front portion and the sides. Furthermore, the fabric could be the same material as the headband.
Note that Apple has filed many patents, and it is not sure that the accessory will see daylight soon. However, the company could introduce the accessory with the launch of the Vision Pro headset. It was previously reported that the company will potentially launch the Vision Pro headset by the end of January or at the beginning of February.
