Apple is getting closer to releasing its successor to the Vision Pro, and this time around, the headset will not only be more powerful but more comfortable as well. A new report claims that Apple will launch the Vision Pro 2 later this year with upgraded internals and adjustments to the head strap. However, do not expect a cheaper version of the device, as the company could take a few more years to perfect the cost-cutting measures while retaining the same functionality.
The upcoming Vision Pro 2 will offer improved comfort with a redesigned strap, but its weight and price remain significant hurdles
The news is shared by Bloomberg analyst Mark Gurman, who claims that the Vision Pro 2 launch is nearing, and we could see it introduced alongside the new M5 MacBook Pro models or the M5 iPad Pro refresh. Apple will first launch the iPhone 17 lineup in September at a dedicated event and then announce the M5 MacBook Pro models in the following months. We believe that the Vision Pro 2 will launch later with the Macs instead of the iPhones.
As for what you should expect, Gurman states that the Vision Pro 2 will be equipped with an M4 chip, delivering significant performance gains over the M2 iteration we currently use. Since the company is releasing the product with the M5 chip announcement, it should equip the device with the same chip, as it would make more sense, according to prominent industry analyst Ming-Chi Kuo. Needless to say, the M4 chip would still be a major step up in the right direction as well, as the SoC is pretty capable when it comes to computational and graphical performance. Apple Intelligence could also see a boost in the future on the Vision Pro, and the M4 chip is perfect for future-proofing the hardware.
Besides the performance, the Vision Pro 2 will also have a significantly redesigned head strap for more comfort. This is particularly an important upgrade for users who use the headset for longer periods of time. While the weight and the head strap of the headset were major setbacks for some users, the company has no plans to make the machine lighter. The redesigned iteration of the Vision Pro could pay attention to the issue, but the second generation will remain the same in terms of all aspects, apart from internals.
Gurman says that a cheaper version of the Vision Pro will possibly arrive in 2027, which could push the mixed-reality experience to the masses. Currently, only a select number of users are interested at a price of $3,499, and demand is nowhere near the level of other Apple products. Do you think Apple will launch the Vision Pro 2 with an M5 or an M4 chip?
