Utter pandemonium appears to be the order of the day when it comes to leaks emanating from Apple's sprawling supply chain as the upcoming foldable iPhone is subjected to a bevy of conflicting and dissonant pronouncements, with everything from its name - iPhone Fold or iPhone Ultra - to the launch timeline - delayed or launching in the fall - seemingly up in the air.

Will Apple's upcoming foldable bear the name iPhone Fold or iPhone Ultra? Is it delayed or launching alongside the iPhone 18 Pro duo in the fall?

A notable Weibo-based tipster, Digital Chat Station, has now muddied the proverbial waters by claiming that Apple's upcoming foldable would be called the iPhone Ultra instead of the previously rumored iPhone Fold moniker.

Of course, this change of the moniker is seemingly supported by a recent report from Bloomberg's Mark Gurman, who declared that Apple is doubling down on launching a series of 'Ultra' products, including the foldable iPhone, camera-equipped AirPods Pro, and touch-enabled OLED MacBook Pro.

Next, we reported earlier today that Apple's iPhone Fold/iPhone Ultra was facing launch delays due to two sticking points:

  1. Apple still has to decide whether to employ a 'liquid metal' or 3D-printed titanium hinge for the foldable.
  2. Pricing negotiations for key components continue.

We reported only yesterday that Apple's iPhone Fold/iPhone Ultra has entered trial production, which ordinarily would have meant that the foldable would presumably launch as planned alongside the iPhone 18 Pro duo in the fall. However, given these late-stage snags, it is unclear if Apple would be able to adhere to its earlier launch cadence.

Of course, Barclays analyst, Tim Long, recently noted in a research note that Apple might only be able to ship the iPhone Fold in December 2026.

To make matters ultra-confusing, pun intended, a notable leaker of CAD renders has just come forward to suggest that the Apple iPhone Fold/iPhone Ultra will launch in September as planned.

Given this state of utter pandemonium, we would suggest that you take all such rumors with a hefty grain of salt until these disparate voices begin to converge, indicating a resolution of the underlying uncertainty. As always, we'll keep you updated with this mini saga as it unfolds.
