U.S. President Trump had an important conference call intended to bring faith leaders across the U.S. together for a series of dialogues and to emphasize the outreach efforts for these groups. However, the call was delayed due to some technical difficulties with AT&T's service, and Trump did not take the glitch lightly. The president took it to an online platform to express his frustration over the network and about incurring such a problem for the second time. The telecommunication service provider quickly responded and defended itself, denying that the problem stemmed from its end.
Trump lashes out at AT&T after a glitch delayed his conference call, but AT&T is not ready to take the blame
On Monday afternoon, Donald Trump experienced an issue during his conference call and did not refrain from complaining about AT&T's service online, making him feel like another person sharing his frustration about his service provider. Trump took it to Truth Social to share the inconvenience caused by the technical glitch in two posts that also emphasized how the carrier needs to get its act together. Trump wrote:
AT&T is totally unable to make their equipment work properly. This is the second time it’s happened. If the Boss of AT&T, whoever that may be, could get involved — It would be good. There are tens of thousands of people on the line!
The president later urged the leadership of AT&T to intervene and look into the matter. AT&T, knowing how an issue like this can severely damage the service provider's reputation and paint it as an unreliable network, especially coming from the presidential office, was quick to respond and was not willing to take the blame for the delay in the conference call. Although the tone was polite and focused on working on understanding the issue better and ensuring it does not erupt in the future, the blame was put on an unnamed third-party conference call platform. While AT&T did not mention which platform, it clearly distanced itself from the blame of this high-profile mishap. The carrier stated on X:
The disruption was caused by an issue with the conference call platform, not our network. Unfortunately, this caused the delay, and we are working diligently to better understand the issue so we can prevent disruptions in the future.
Despite the delay, President Trump was able to carry out his call, which was about 15 minutes long. However, the glitch did highlight how crucial tech reliability is and how it tends to be intertwined with public trust, and thus, should be dealt with great caution.
