Some TikTok Users Can Now Upload 60-Minute Long Videos On The App, Ushering The Platform Into A New Era

After the US, TikTok could be looking at a potential ban in the EU

One of TikTok's biggest draws is its focus on short-form content that instantly gets the viewer hooked. Facebook, Instagram, and YouTube have also tried to replicate this, and I would say to a good degree. Now, the platform is looking to make a change, which could technically mean that the app is being ushered into a new era.

TikTok's 60-minute time limit would put it right in YouTube's yard

TechCrunch reported that TikTok has enabled some users to upload videos that are 60 minutes long. This is honestly a pretty big jump from the standard 3-minute limitation that the app currently has, and if this does become widespread, we might start seeing the platform in a different light.

Now, a little history lesson is needed for those who don't know about TikTok's experimentation with different video lengths. The platform currently has a 3-minute maximum limitation. However, the company has also dabbled with the 10-minute limit in the past, and when it launched, it only allowed 15 seconds. 60 minutes, on the other hand, is a lot.

If TikTok decides to roll out the 60-minute video limit, it could hint that the platform is looking forward to ushering in a new era. This is not really a bad thing, but we are not sure how it will affect the short-form creators who have made the platform their home. We are also not sure how this will affect the future of the platform as a whole.

TikTok says that while creators can weave multipart stories together by telling viewers to go to part two or more of a story, it often hears from creators who want more time for things like cooking demos, beauty tutorials, educational lesson plans, comedic sketches and more.

The purpose of the increased time limit is to give creators the opportunity to experiment with new or expanded types of content with more flexibility, the company says. Of course, this puts TikTok in even more direct competition with YouTube.

The one obvious thing that comes to mind is that if TikTok does end up entering the market with its 60-minute maximum time limit, it will go ahead and become YouTube's competitor, something that YouTube has not seen in a long, long time,

Of course, all of it still depends on how successful the limit experiment is, and we will have to wait and see how that happens. TikTok is already one of the most successful platforms out there, and with this new video limit, it could easily become the giant it wants to be.
