Apparently, it's so easy to get your Ryzen 9800X3D bricked, but three dead CPUs in a single day? That's really concerning.
ASUS X870E and B850 Motherboards Kill Three Ryzen 9800X3D CPUs; Users Share Their Experiences on Reddit
Two days ago, we reported two dead Ryzen 7 9800X3D CPUs on ASUS motherboards. Today, we have three such cases, all of them being reported on the same day. Surprisingly, two of them used the same motherboard models as in the previous story, while the third one had its CPU killed by an ASUS B850 chipset motherboard. It seems like Ryzen 9800X3D failures on ASUS motherboards have been piling up in recent days, but ASRock still leads with the largest number of dead CPUs.
The first case is of u/TransitionEffective9, who initially thought his motherboard was dead. He tried PSU swap and various troubleshooting methods, but didn't achieve success. Finally, he removed his CPU and noticed some burn marks on the top. The image confirms it, but the socket on the motherboard (ROG Crosshair X870 Hero) doesn't show any visible signs of burn. He tried booting with Ryzen 7800X3D on the motherboard, but got no success, which confirmed the death of both 9800X3D and the motherboard.
The second case of u/LexiSQ involves the ROG Strix X870E-E Gaming, which killed the Ryzen 7 9800X3D in a simple reboot. After another restart, the motherboard showed the error code "00", which confirmed the death of the CPU. It's pretty much how the other guy got his CPU bricked, as we reported in the previous post. He did mention that maybe one of the accidentally bent pins might have caused this, but he says he didn't have any problems for nearly six months.
In the third case, it was u/JGDraco who confirmed his dead Ryzen 7 9800X3D on ASUS TUF B850M-Plus WiFi. 9800X3D deaths on B850 chipsets are fewer, but not uncommon. The guy says that his PC was running fine for two months, but after it refused to boot, his inspection confirmed a dead CPU. So, here we have it. Three cases were reported in a single day, and at this speed, ASUS might catch up to ASRock in killing the most number of Ryzen 9800X3Ds.
