A Thermal Grizzly package labeled 'TG Delidded CPU' accompanies a Ryzen 9850X3D processor on a red background.

All three delidded Ryzen 9000X3D processors are now available on the official Thermal Grizzly website, including the recently launched 9850X3D.

Thermal Grizzly Introduces AMD TG Delidded Ryzen 7 9850X3D CPU for $876.33 With Two Years of Warranty

Thermal Grizzly was quick in introducing the delidded AMD Ryzen 7 9850X3D processor, which was launched roughly three weeks ago. Ryzen 7 9850X3D is right now the fastest gaming processor, succeeding the 9800X3D with most of its specs identical except for the boost clock. If you remember, Thermal Grizzly started selling the delidded Ryzen 7 9800X3D CPUs in Q1 2025, just a few months after the processor's launch.

Delidding a CPU is the process of removing the IHS or heat spreader from the processor, which exposes the dies on the substrate, such as the CCD and IOD. This usually voids the warranty, but since Thermal Grizzly is offering its own warranty for the customers, enthusiasts who are looking to deploy their own cooling solution for maximum thermal performance and unlocking higher overclocking potential can buy it without any worries.

Unlike the regular editions, the delidded CPUs are sold for a much higher price. Ryzen 7 9800X3D, which launched for $479, was available at $712 from Thermal Grizzly in its delidded form. Similarly, we have the Ryzen 9 9950X3D being sold for a whopping $1,168 while it launched for $699. The new Zen 5 8-core/16-thread X3D chip, aka Ryzen 7 9850X3D, is now being sold for $876, which is $350 higher than the MSRP of the 9850X3D.

So, this isn't for the masses or for gamers, but for enthusiast overclockers who want to push the chip to its limits. The delidded Ryzen 7 9850X3D will ship with two years of warranty from Thermal Grizzly, but the company has explicitly stated not to use the stock heat spreader on the delidded CPU, which ships in the box, as this will void the warranty.
