It's a powerful GPU block for enthusiasts who wouldn't mind spending over $600 for the premium cooling experience it offers.
Der8auer Demonstrates the Exceptional Cooling Performance of Deltamate GPU Block for ROG Astral RTX 5080 GPU; GPU Block Costs Over $600
The ROG Astral RTX 5080 GPU from ASUS falls under the high-performance/premium GPU category, but its stock cooler may not be very appealing to enthusiasts. If you are someone who already owns the Astral RTX 5080, then you should take a look at what Der8auer calls "The Most Ambitious GPU Water Block..." they (Thermal Grizzly) have ever built.
This was demonstrated by Der8auer in his latest video, revealing the thermal performance of the Astral RTX 5080 with the Thermal Grizzly DELTAMATE. The Deltamate is a GPU water block, specially crafted for the Astral RTX 5080, and hosts a real-glass window that sits inside the black anodized aluminum casing, which appears to be pretty basic, but Der8auer calls the process "painful". The excellent smooth finish the water block brings to the backplate is something that was reportedly quite difficult to achieve, but this isn't the only reason why the GPU block costs so much.
As per Der8auer's demonstration, the Deltamate is a high-performance cooler, which lowers the GPU and VRAM temperatures of the card significantly. With the stock cooler, the ROG Astral RTX 5080 was running hot, measuring around 70°C under full load when stress tested using FurMark. Its VRAM was hitting around 64-66°C, which is quite decent for normal usage and for the masses. However, when switched to Deltamate, the thermal performance of the card improved dramatically.
The idle temperature for the GPU chip remained near 25°C while the memory appeared to be running close to 36°C. However, when the GPU was stress tested for over 10 minutes using FurMark, the GPU could hardly exceed 49°C while the VRAM temperature remained even lower at around 44°C. Compared to the stock cooler, the Deltamate seems to be performing exceptionally well, which is obvious when you look at the design of this product.
The Deltamate uses a massive copper cooler, featuring a dual-cold plate design. The VRAM coldplate alone weighs over 900 grams and uses copper to achieve such results. The only thing that will pull people away from this is its high price tag of $643, which is nearly 50% of the current MSRP of the GeForce RTX 5080. The Astral RTX 5080 is currently selling for around $1900 on Amazon and Newegg, and with the Deltamate cooler, the total cost goes up to $2500.
