The Witcher 3 fans have been patiently waiting for the Xbox One X update to drop, but the developers have been silent in the last month or so. However, it seems like the folks at CD Projekt RED may have a Christmas present in the work for Xbox One X fans as the official list on Microsoft's website now mentions that the update is "Coming Soon". Whenever a game's Xbox One X status changed from "In Development" to "Coming Soon", the patch dropped in the following week or so.

A while ago, CD Projekt RED shared the first technical details on The Witcher 3 Xbox One X update. Let's refresh our minds with them.

With the additional power of the Xbox One X, we are able to deliver The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt in 4K, while providing numerous visual tweaks such as higher-quality shadows, ambient occlusion & texture filtering, as well as higher resolution textures, and an all-around performance boost.

Thanks to 4K, we can show everything our artists created with more detail. And it’s not just owners of a 4K TV who will benefit from the higher resolution. Thanks to supersampling, the leap in quality will be visible even on a 1080p screen.

For comparison, CD Projekt RED's PlayStation 4 Pro patch for the epic RPG delivered a 2160p image through checkerboard rendering, according to Digital Foundry, reconstructed from a base resolution of 1920x2160.

Other enhancements on PS4 Pro include 16x Anisotropic Filtering and Horizon Based Ambient Occlusion (HBAO), so going with what we know of the upcoming The Witcher 3 Xbox One X update, owners of Microsoft's new console should enjoy higher-quality shadows, higher resolution textures and a native 4K resolution in comparison. It will be interesting to see whether the hardware can maintain a steady 30 frames per second even in the busiest areas, such as Crookback Bog.

You can purchase The Witcher 3: Game of the Year Edition (including both expansions, Blood and Wine and Hearts of Stone) on Microsoft's Store.
