In the past few months, we heard that a new The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt DLC was in development to bridge the gap with The Witcher 4 (which won't fall into the same development pitfalls as previous games) and kickstart its marketing. The rumors were correct, as a new expansion called Songs of the Past has been announced today.

"Medallion's humming... that can only mean one thing! It's time to announce The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt - Songs of the Past," reads the announcement post on social media. "This brand new expansion for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt will take you to the Path with Geralt of Rivia once more. It’s being co-developed with Fools Theory and is coming to PC, Xbox Series X|S, and PlayStation 5 in 2027. Stay tuned for more information in late summer."

To support the Songs of the Past expansion, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt will also receive an update, which will increase the game's minimum requirements. While most players with relatively modern hardware won't have any trouble running the game, Windows 11 will be required.

New The Witcher 3 Minimum System Requirements

Why CDPR is Dropping Windows 10 and HDD Support

In a new post on its official support website, CD Projekt Red provided reasoning behind increasing the game's minimum requirements and doing away with HDD support.

Although the new system requirements will be required to play The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt following the update adding support for the Songs of the Past expansion, it will still be possible to play the game by reverting to an earlier version of the game.

While the expansion's key art doesn't tell us much about it, which will reportedly be set closer to Velen, the announcement itself is more than welcome. The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt remains one of the best open-world RPGs of all time over a decade since its release, and being able to accompany Geralt of Rivia in one more adventure before he passes the torch to Ciri will make fans really happy. I know I am.
