Nearly five years after he left Blizzard, Jeff Kaplan, the man behind Overwatch, has revealed his new game called The Legend of California. Kaplan is developing it at his new independent studio called Kintsugiyama. The game will be published by Dreamhaven, which was founded years ago by fellow ex-Blizzard co-founder and president Mike Morhaime.

It's a multiplayer action survival first-person shooter game set in the Gold Rush era and bound for early access on Steam later this year.

According to the Steam page, players will explore an expansive, ever-changing open world inspired by the Gold Rush era, featuring distinct biomes, challenging PvE encounters, and iconic Californian landmarks. They'll hunt and fight their way across a vast, untamed frontier, leveraging robust gathering and crafting systems to transform the Californian wilderness into whatever they need to survive.

The Legend of California features persistent multiplayer servers where players can forge their legacy alone or team up with up to three other players to share resources, buildings, progress, and more. Keen explorers will uncover hidden threats and long-forgotten secrets, and eventually assault enemy strongholds, taking them down and reaping the rewards.

The FPS combat is said to reward precision and skill, whether the player is hunting wildlife to stay alive, taking down hostile encampments for quick cash, or defending their territory against enemy players in optional PvP.

The Steam page already includes minimum and recommended system requirements for The Legend of California, which we've added below.
